Scoliosis Stories and Words of Wisdom

I was searching the internet for stories and quotes to put on here, and I found some! First, here are some very inspiring words I found at http://members.tripod.com/my_back/scoliosis/ :

Your body is not who you are. The shape of your body is no reflection on you inner self, your true self. You are not defined by your physical body, by the 'husk' that is our vehicle during this life.
Beauty is not defined by what you look like. If you are happy inside, and positive, this will shine through and you will see beauty when you look at yourself in the mirror, no matter how crooked your spine is. Other people around you will see that beauty shining through you as well, regardless of your physical body's shape.
It is not the end of the world, and you can get through it! Think of it as a personal challenge to overcome, set goals for yourself to achieve. If you view it in a negative way, as only being something scary and then you'll likely have a bad experience. If you go in strong, healthy, and with a smile on your face, then you will succeed. It's amazing how far one can go on a smile.
Don't stop living because of scoliosis. For your own sake, live life for once. Accept your back, and don't let it ruin your life. It's not worth it. There are many worst things you could be suffering from, lots of worst situations you could be in, so be grateful for what you have and live your life.

And here is a website I found with funny (for once) scoliosis stories! These really made me laugh, because I can absolutely relate to them! http://www.scoliosis.org/forum/archive/index.php/t-7554.html

And one more thing-- I just remembered my mom telling me about something she saw on the Web. She read about this girl who named her back brace so that when she got mad at it, she could yell at it! I personally think that's a great idea. :P

Hola

I have a blog about Scoliosis along with a website and support group on Yahoo

We have just started a new campaign called "howtolookgoodtwisted"

The reason for starting this campaign is to capture the interest of Gok Wan - he is a fashion designer in the UK and runs a TV programme called "How to Look Good Naked" where he dresses women and men with new fashions, dealing with people who wear drabby clothes to hide their bodies

Many Scoliosis patients struggle with how they look and what to wear, this is why we started the campaign, to make something fun for people with Scoliosis and gain more awareness

Wanted to share with you as you are also going down the "fun" route

Take care and all the best

i think what you are doing is really good.im 18 now nd i have scoliosis.i had to wear a brace for a while to avoid the curve getting worse but i dont anymore, girls with scoliosis need to realize that we are not our spines.we can still be totally beautiful hot people.carry urselves with confidence lift ur chin high. i like to wear oversize shirts that still look nice and fashionalbe with hot skinny jeans and sandals.nobody even notices my scoliosis anymore.i know peole may tease( a girl in my hisgh school called me disfigured,i stood up 4 myself tho nd pointed out her flaws which were far worse than a twisted spine;))......girls with this stuff need to be fabuous, graious and totally beautifully twistedd!!x
